Court Yard Hounds

I was just doing some desk work and listening to NPR and I heard this great interview. Court Yard Hounds is one of my favorite new bands. check out the interview. They play a really cool bluegrass tune for the NPR audience.

book update

I have not posted anything in a while, and I finally marked the last thing off of my to-do list for today, so I thought I would take a second and post something.

One of the goals that I have set for myself this year is to read more. I have digested 3 book in 2010, and I am about to get started on my fourth tomorrow. Here is the list of what I have knocked out so far...

1. The Associate by John Grisham (i give it a 6-10)

1st year attorney trying to make it in NYC. Blackmail. Government Corruption. Suspense. Blahzay Blahzay

2. Cross Country by James Patterson (I give it a 5-10)

Alex Cross Series. I hate to admit it, but I usually enjoy reading Patterson's novels :). No depth, but page turners none-the-less.

3. Lit by Dave Edwards (6-10)

Nonfiction. practical. What does it look like to be a follower of Christ? What does it mean to be light? etc. I was reviewing this as a possibility for something we could use for a General Ed course.

I hope I can keep this up. I have been watching less TV, and I feel like I have rested better (reading before bed).

back in the day

I have been feeling really nostalgic lately because I thought that this spring made 10 YEARS that Cory and I have been together. Once we did some math, though, we realized that it was only 9 :). Nevertheless, both of us have been thinking of the old days lately. I can still remember him walking me back to my house (we lived in the same neighborhood) and asking me to be his girlfriend. I feel like we have grown up together. It is pretty cool to think about how much we have grown and changed together. Here are a few picks and a recap of how we met.

I met Cory the first weekend that I arrived in Charleston in 1999. We had a great conversation, and Cory asked me to hang out again. Unbeknownst to him, one of the seniors on my team had given me the advice to "Stay away from the baseball players." Being the non-confrontational person that I am, I told Cory "Sure we can go out" and gave him my number (all the girls who read this will know what I am saying). Well, I had given my number to several other guys that night (Sorry to my high school friend whose car phone number I used) and unbeknownst to me, one of them was Cory's roommate. So when sweet Cory got home that night and told his roommate that he had met a really nice girl from West Virginia who played on the basketball team and he was going to take her out again, his roommate said, "Well I did too". Needless to say that Cory got the wrong idea of me pretty quick. He figured me out in due time, though.

Here we go!

I am new to blogging, but I have noticed that a lot of my friends have these, and I am not allowed to comment on their blog unless I have one of my own. So here we go. It is January, so I will start with some goals for 2010.

1. eat more WORD. I hate that I take God's Word for granted as much as I do. I am excited about what He is doing in me and everywhere else. Lord Please help me be more disciplined and hungry.
2. Read more in general. Sadly, I only took time to read three non-school related books last year. I would like to read at least one a month.
3. Be more diligent at home. I want to be a better homemaker for my hubby.
4. Stick to the budget
5. Live in the present more. I love to live in the possibilities, which is good (and energizing). But I feel like I get so "on task" that I rush out of a hug or out of a conversation.

Five seems like a good round number.
